Meet Our Cattle: The Heart of Our Dairy

Our dairy products are only as good as the animals that produce them. Get to know the cattle at Satwik Farms — how we care for them and why it makes all the difference.

Meet Our Cattle: The Heart of Our Dairy

Before there is fresh milk, there are cattle. Before there is yoghurt or ghee, there is a healthy, well-cared-for animal that produces quality milk. At Satwik Farms, we believe the standard of our dairy products is set in the pasture — not the processing room.

Our Herd

Our cattle are a cross-bred herd suited to Tanzania's coastal climate. They're sturdy, well-adapted to the heat, and consistently productive. We keep our herd at a size that allows us to give each animal individual attention — this is a farm, not a factory.

The cattle graze on natural pasture on our land in Kisarawe. When supplemental feed is needed — during dry months or for nursing cows — we use clean, natural feed with no hormones or growth promoters.

How We Care for Them

Spacious Pasture

Our cattle are never confined to small stalls. They have access to open grazing land throughout the day. The ability to move freely, graze naturally, and behave like cattle reduces stress and produces noticeably better milk.

Natural Diet

Our primary cattle feed is fresh grass and pasture. We supplement with natural grains and fodder during dry periods. No growth hormones. No routine antibiotics. No artificial additives in the feed. What the cattle eat goes directly into their milk — so what they eat matters to us and to you.

Regular Veterinary Care

A healthy herd requires consistent monitoring. Our cattle receive regular health checks, vaccinations, and any necessary treatment from a qualified vet. We track each animal individually and address health issues early. A sick cow produces poor-quality milk — preventing illness is part of producing quality dairy.

Clean Living Conditions

Our cattle sheds are cleaned and maintained daily. Clean water is always available. The environment is managed to minimise stress, disease, and discomfort. Happy, healthy animals produce better milk — this isn't sentimentality, it's dairy science.

From Cattle to Your Table

Our milking happens in the early morning. Milk is collected hygienically, quality-checked for freshness and purity, and then processed — either bottled as fresh milk or carefully converted into yoghurt and ghee. From milking to delivery typically takes less than 24 hours.

This speed matters. Fresh, minimally processed dairy from well-kept cattle has a flavour and nutritional profile that pasteurised, long-shelf-life dairy simply cannot match.

Why Animal Welfare and Dairy Quality Are Linked

Stress in cattle directly affects milk composition — stressed animals produce milk with different fat ratios, lower protein content, and sometimes elevated somatic cell counts (a measure of milk quality). Our low-stress environment, natural diet, and individual care are not just ethical choices. They are quality control.

When you order milk, yoghurt, or ghee from Satwik Farms, you're getting the product of animals that are well-treated and well-fed. That's a commitment we keep every single day.

Our cattle live in Kisarawe. Their milk reaches Dar es Salaam the same day it's collected. Order via WhatsApp or our Android app.
