What's Growing This Month: January Harvest at Satwik Farms
January is one of the most productive months at Satwik Farms. The rains from November and December have soaked into the soil, and the warm Tanzanian sun is doing exactly what it should — pushing our crops to their peak. This month, our fields in Kisarawe are full, and deliveries to Dar es Salaam are brimming with variety.
Here's a look at what's coming in fresh this January.
What's Ready This Month
Leafy Greens
January is excellent for leafy greens. We're harvesting:
- Spinach — Tender, dark, and packed with iron. Perfect for sautéing, soups, or fresh in salads.
- Amaranth (Mchicha) — A local favourite with deep nutritional value. We grow it without any sprays, so it's completely clean.
- Kale — Hearty, slightly bitter, and loaded with vitamins K and C.
Leafy greens are best eaten as fresh as possible — our same-day harvest and next-day delivery ensures you get them at their nutritional peak.
Tomatoes
Our tomato crop is in full swing this month. Both cherry tomatoes and larger varieties are available. Grown in open fields with natural compost, ours have a depth of flavour you won't find in produce that's been chemically treated or stored for weeks.
Cucumbers and Courgettes
Great for salads, juicing, or cooking. We're pulling cucumbers daily — they grow fast in this heat and the crop is consistent right now.
Capsicum (Bell Peppers)
Red, yellow, and green capsicum are available this month. Sweet, crisp, and colourful — they're in excellent condition right now.
Herbs
Fresh coriander, basil, and mint are available in good supply. Add them to your delivery order — they make everything taste better and are as fresh as herbs can possibly be.
Why January Produce Tastes Different
Produce grown in the right season, harvested at the right time, and eaten quickly is categorically different from out-of-season vegetables or supermarket produce that's been shipped from far away. January's natural growing conditions in coastal Tanzania mean our crops are getting exactly the right amount of sun, warmth, and rain — no artificial inputs needed to push the crop along.
The result is deeper flavour, more nutrients, and a freshness that's immediately noticeable.
